The story behind SynFabula
This project started with collaboration in mind. We come from academic research, and we were looking for a tool like Overleaf, but for all types of creativity. We are also big fans of git in general, and crowdfunding platforms. We believe AI-generated content can be a great tool, but there is no substitute for human discussion. Hence SynFabula relies on human collaboration at two levels: (i) for the (crowd)funding of a project, and (ii) for the contributions that make this project so unique.
Walkthrough (10 minutes)
- Explore. Open Explore and pick a public project (try Neon Asphalt — Sneaker Background, or The Apron Pocket for a formatted short story with headings and lists).
- Read the README. Owner(s), goal, and constraints sit at the top — the project brief before you touch the Fabula.
- Scan Fabula ↔ Compile. Left = accepted collaborative text. Right = media compiled from that text. Each pending proposal has its own Compile slot on the same row.
- Sign in or create an account so you can propose, fund, and compile.
- Propose a change under Contribute, or click Propose on top on a pending card to branch from text that is still under review.
- Compile a pending idea with your personal credits from that proposal’s right-hand panel — no owner approval needed to preview media.
- Or fund the wallet so owners can compile the accepted Fabula for everyone.
- Owners accept/reject pending proposals; accepted text becomes the new Fabula. Ask to become an owner if you want to help steer the project.
Roles
- Visitor — browse public projects, README, Fabula, review diffs, and compiled outputs.
- Contributor — join a project, submit proposals, branch on pending text, allocate personal credits to the project wallet, compile pending proposals with personal credits.
- Owner(s) — accept/reject proposals, accept owner requests, spend the project wallet to compile the accepted Fabula.
Fabula & review
The Fabula is the current accepted prompt or manuscript. Contributors do not edit it in place: they submit a proposal (full proposed text + short summary). Review shows a formatted preview plus a line diff against the Fabula — or against a pending parent when the proposal is a branch.
You can use headings, bold, italic, and lists from the editor toolbar. The stored text is ordinary Markdown behind the scenes; Compile strips that formatting so image and video models see plain prose.
Only owners can accept or reject. Accepting replaces the Fabula with the proposed text. History lists resolved proposals under Review.
Branches on pending text
You can stack a new proposal on another still-pending contribution. Nested cards indent with a branch marker; every card in the same tree shares the root contributor’s accent color so the branch reads as one conversation, not a rainbow of unrelated edits.
Diffs for nested proposals are against their pending parent, not against the accepted Fabula — so you see what changed in that fork.
Credits & Compile rules
Credits power AI generation. There are two balances:
- Personal balance — yours (purchases, demo grants, refunds).
- Project wallet — pooled credits anyone may top up; only owners spend it.

So if you like a project, you can either fund the wallet (owners compile the canonical Fabula) or spend your own credits to render a pending contribution you care about — useful for pitching an idea with a picture before owners accept the text.
Each Compile panel on the right has its own mode selector and Compile button. Modes map to credit costs in the pricing table (draft is cheapest; “final” modes cost more).
Ownership
Projects list Owner(s) in the README and header. Non-owners can click Ask to become an owner; existing owners accept or reject that request. Multiple owners can share accept/reject and Fabula compile duties.
Safety & labels
Generated media is labeled AI-generated. Prompts go through moderation before expensive model calls; blocked or failed jobs refund the credits that were reserved or charged. Report abusive projects from the project page.
